About ACT:A
Open to leaners from their early years through to post graduate study, ACT:A is the destination for those looking to understand sustainability, circularity and the future of energy security.
With our mission to inspire young minds into STEM careers, ACT:A is a community, a springboard, a seed. a fuel – and a source of support.
And, who knows, it could even be an entry point to the world of Altilium and a role at one of our ACT sites in the UK.
Why it matters
“As pioneers in a fast-emerging industry, we recognise that our responsibility goes far beyond building a successful business – it’s about building the future workforce too. The transition to clean technologies won’t happen on its own, so we’re committed to doing our part: inspiring the next generation, sharing our knowledge, and creating real opportunities for young people to discover and grow their skills in this space. If we want a thriving clean tech sector in the UK, it starts with us – and it starts now.”
Dr Christian Marston,
Founder, President + COO
“We’re not just building an industry, we’re building future talent . By inspiring the next generation to explore EV battery recycling and clean tech careers, we can grow the skills the UK will need for tomorrow. From classrooms to workplace experiences, we’re proud to share the ‘magic’ of turning waste into critical minerals and to show young people the opportunities this emerging industry holds. Altilium are turning old batteries into bright futures to inspire a whole clean tech generation.”
Emily Hatcher, Head of People & Culture
“I chose Altilium for my work experience as their chemical processes interested me, whilst being able to speak with people already in a STEM field. The whole week showed me a really deep insight into the world of STEM and Chemical Engineering post education and has reinforced my passion for this field. My main highlight has to be my research project as a whole. It gave me a sense of independence and has really helped me in seeing what working at a company in STEM, like Altilium, might feel I would highly recommend the week’s work experience with Altilium to anyone considering a career in STEM.”
Will, Yr 11 Student,
Work Experience Placement
“I immediately realised Altilium was something extraordinary. I loved the facts that they’d rather recycle what already exists than destroy habitat and put people’s lives in great danger by mining useful materials. Having a closer look into how the company runs gave me a deeper look into what I need to consider for making a successful company. Never in my life have I encountered so many people with a PhD or who have worked for Oxbridge universities – they had a lot of fun stories to tell.”
Kate, Yr 13 Student,
Work Experience Placement
“This micro-internship really opened my eyes to the growing opportunities in the clean tech sector and how vital communication is in building a sustainable future. Knowing that the resources I created will help educate young people and spark their interest in clean tech was definitely the highlight of my experience.”
