Altilium was delighted to welcome Noah Law MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Critical Minerals, to the company’s EV battery recycling facilities in Plymouth this week, including our new ACT 3 scale-up plant at Langage.

During the visit, the MP for St Austell and Newquay got to see first-hand the progress at the first-of-a-kind facility, which will recover critical battery materials such as lithium, nickel and cobalt from 24,000 EVs per year.

Back at our ACT 2 pilot plant, we had had the opportunity to showcase Altilium’s innovative green processing technologies and discuss our plans for building a domestic circular economy for the critical battery minerals needed to support the UK’s net zero goals.

As the recent report on UK Critical Minerals Recycling and Midstream Processing Capability noted, a secure supply of critical minerals is vital not only for the clean energy transition, but also for the UK’s economic growth and national security.

At Altilium, we’re working hard to help achieve this national ambition, building the recycling capability to recover critical metals from end-of-life EV batteries and reduce dependence on overseas supply chains, with significantly lower carbon emissions than mined materials.

As chair of the APPG, Noah has been a steadfast supporter of the UK critical minerals sector and his visit is testament to the growing recognition of the role recycling must play in achieving net zero. We appreciated the chance to discuss potential policy actions with him and look forward to working with government to deliver on the ambitions of the upcoming Critical Minerals Strategy.
