Altilium is delighted to be included in UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)’s announcement during London Tech Week, highlighting publicly funded projects that are improving everyday lives in the UK through technology.
As the announcement notes, Altilium’s research with Imperial College London is helping to build a resilient battery industry in the UK and lower the environmental impact of electric vehicles.
As EV adoption accelerates, so too does the challenge of managing the growing volume of waste batteries expected as these vehicles reach end-of-life. At Altilium, we’re building a sustainable, domestic battery supply chain by recycling this waste into valuable materials for the next generation of EVs.
With the support of the Innovate UK-led Faraday Battery Challenge, Altilium has developed its EcoCathode™ processing technologies to recover critical battery materials, like lithium and cobalt, from end-of-life EV batteries, ensuring valuable resources remain in the UK and reducing our reliance on imported raw materials.
Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser, UKRI’s CEO, said: “The examples we have highlighted today demonstrate the power of new technologies to improve lives across the country, and how investing in talented people and teams can fuel a high productivity, high growth economy, improve public services and create a wide range of high quality jobs.”
Altilium is proud to be part of the UK’s world-leading research and innovation system and the recognition is another milestone as we scale our technology and support the UK’s transition to net zero.
