Analytical Lab Technician

Salary: £24,000.00-£28,000.00 per year

The Role:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Laboratory Technician/Analyst in our hydrometallurgical research laboratory. This dynamic role combines expertise in chemical analysis with hands-on laboratory techniques, focusing on the utilization of Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) methodologies. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting research and development activities, ensuring accurate and reliable analytical results, supporting the development in a brand new industry, recovering critical metals from waste streams.

What You’ll Do:

Chemical Analysis:

  • Conduct chemical analysis using ICP-OES to determine elemental composition in various samples.
  • Ensure the proper calibration and maintenance of ICP-OES equipment.
  • Interpret and analyze data, troubleshooting any discrepancies in results.

X-ray Diffraction (XRD):

  • Perform XRD analyses to identify and characterize crystalline structures in materials.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot XRD equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with research teams to provide valuable insights into material properties.

Laboratory Techniques:

  • Prepare and handle samples for analysis according to established protocols.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  • Execute various laboratory techniques with precision and attention to detail.

Quality Control:

  • Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of analytical results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address and resolve any quality issues.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Record and document all experimental procedures, observations, and results.
  • Generate comprehensive reports summarizing findings for internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring:

As a minimum you should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in operating and maintaining ICP-OES and/or XRD instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a research or industrial laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of additional analytical techniques to aid is provision and insight with the team.
