We have joined forces with ABB, a global technology leader, to electrify our battery recycling process, pioneering the integration of automation, electrification and digital technologies. This collaboration addresses the pressing need for domestic, low carbon, sustainable battery materials in the UK and Europe, giving the region industrial resilience.

Our new partnership is driving innovation and speeding time to market. By combining ABB’s cutting-edge automation and electrification solutions and Altilium’s expertise in green recycling technologies, allowing the recovery of over 95% of cathode metals, including lithium from EV battery scrap, we are closing the loop in battery manufacturing.

We will showcase ABB’s cutting-edge technologies at our battery recycling Development Line (ACT 1) and Pilot Line (ACT 2) in Devon. These lines serve as the scale-up of advanced automation, electrification, and digital solutions, setting new industry standards in recycling efficiency and environmental sustainability. In Eastern Europe, our SX-EW plant retrofit (ACT3) will utilise the insights gained to efficiently recycle battery waste from over 24,000 EVs. Our first commercial UK plant in Teesside (ACT 4) will produce over 30,0000 MT battery ready cathode active materials from recycling old batteries, making it one of the largest projects in the region and UK’s only planned CAM production.

Altilium and ABB are paving the way for a circular economy where resources are conserved, waste is minimized and recycled, reducing the need for new raw materials and mining, saving our natural resources.
