The 6-month report was completed under a grant from the UK Government’s Automotive Transformation Fund covers many topics in detail, allowing the company to accelerate permitting and grant requests as well as alternative financing.

The key elements of the report:

  • The plant designed by Hatch will have the capacity to process 50,000 tonnes of lithium-ion battery “black mass”, equivalent to approximately 150,000 electric vehicles per year or 10 GWh of lithium-ion batteries.
  • The adopted model is based on two processing facility, a chemical plant producing 95,000 MT of battery precursors, including lithium carbonate and nickel sulphate and a cathode active material plant, producing 30,000 MT of CAM the highest margin component and final material format in a battery cell.
  • Production of CAM allows full battery circularity and a unique customer offering to Automotive OEM’s, allowing collection of EOL batteries and plant scrap and return of CAM for direct reuse in new cell production.
  • The plant is designed to take a mixed chemistry of battery scrap, including LCO, LFP and NMC chemistries. To compensate for any shortage of feed and imbalances in quality, the plant has been designed with the optionality to process primary nickle-cobalt MHP with world class ESG from Altilium Metals existing supply chain.
  • Costs, Capex, Opex, Revenue Projections to AACE class 4 are being kept confidential for now. The Company may release along with cash flow projections to interested parties upon request at info@altilium-metals.com
  • Through its location Teesside it has access to a world class chemical park with low-cost sustainable renewable energy, with potential to deliver battery raw materials to European gigafactories within 24 hours.
  • The plant will create approximately 250 high skilled jobs and 1000’s in the construction phase, as well as supporting the UK’s ability to attract battery gigafactories.

Transport accounts for around 30% of global carbon emissions, and 72% of these emissions come from road transportation such as cars. A stable supply of sustainable battery materials is needed for an electrified supply chain as we move towards net-zero.
