Altilium Metals winning R&D proposal is to produce samples of recycled end-of-life electric vehicle batteries and manufacture new lithium-ion batteries. New battery production will validate the electrochemical performance of recycled technology metals and verify they perform the same as batteries from virgin raw material.
The battery manufacture and testing will be done in conjunction with Imperial College, London. Imperial is consistently rated amongst the world’s best universities and is a UK science-based institution.
This project will validate readiness for scale up and increase business confidence in making large scale manufacturing investments and supports the UK automotive industry in building an electrified vehicle supply chains.
The Automotive Transformation Fund is delivered by the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) and partners, Innovate UK, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Department for International Trade (DIT). It supports the industrialisation at scale of a UK high-value electrified automotive supply chain.
