In April 2021, Cyclone Seroja hit portions of southern Indonesia and East Timor. More than 70,000 structures across the region were damaged or destroyed and nearly half a million people were affected. In response, we were able to help and our subsidiary PT Mandala Erakovic, a high grade Manganese Mine in Manumean region of East Nusa Tenggara was a major donor to a food crisis appeal by Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (Ministry of Energy and Minerals) providing half a ton of rice as food rations to displaced persons in our community.
As a continuation of our disaster relief, we have commenced a project to build community resilience by working with local people and families and restoring houses still damaged by Cyclone Seroja. End of December 2021, we provided funding for 270 bags of cement, 10 trucks of sand, 200 zinc roofing sheets and 600 pieces of construction timber to cover the most urgent needs of the families in the region of PT Mandala Erakovic mine. We will continue to work with our community to provide access to safer, disaster-resistant housing solutions.
